For years, the Tambopata Macaw Project has tirelessly worked to protect these magnificent birds within the Tambopata National Reserve in Madre de Dios, Peru. Today, we are thrilled to announce that this innovative project is expanding to Posada Amazonas, where the Ese Eja Native Community of Infierno and Rainforest Expeditions join forces to protect the Amazon through ecotourism.

Posada Amazonas is a symbol of collaboration and resilience. Owned by the Ese Eja Native Community of Infierno in partnership with Rainforest Expeditions, this lodge embraces ecotourism as a sustainable way to protect their lands and traditions, while actively contributing to conservation. This partnership is a powerful example of how preservation efforts thrive when closely aligned with local communities.
With the expansion of the Tambopata Macaw Project to Posada Amazonas, new artificial nests have been installed in the area, creating safe spaces for macaws to nest. These nests, designed to mimic natural conditions, have played a key role in partially increasing the macaw population within the reserve. By bringing this initiative to Posada Amazonas, we aim to study how these nests perform in a new environment and deepen our understanding of how to support macaw populations in various regions of the Amazon.

Located within the Ese Eja Native Community’s protected land, with nearly 10 hectares dedicated to conservation and the Tambopata National Reserve as its backdrop, Posada Amazonas offers a unique opportunity to combine ecotourism and conservation. Visitors to the lodge become active participants and ambassadors of Tambopata, witnessing firsthand the beauty of the Amazon and the challenges it faces.
Through each visit, we share knowledge and inspire action, allowing guests to experience the Amazon’s wonders up close. The expansion of our conservation efforts to Posada Amazonas reflects our commitment to the Ese Eja Community’s vision of making ecotourism a powerful force for good.
This expansion marks an exciting milestone for Rainforest Expeditions and the Ese Eja Native Community of Infierno. The results from this season will provide valuable insights into the feasibility of artificial nests beyond the reserve, potentially paving the way for further expansion into other areas of the Amazon.
