DISCOVERY NAMED IN HONOR TO GORDON AND BETTY MOORE FOUNDATION - Apu mooreorum
Apu mooreorum is a genitive noun, derived and dedicated in honor of Gordon and Betty Moore (from the Gordon and Betty Moore Foundation) for their unconditional support of the Discovery New Species project belonging to the Wired Amazon Program in southeastern Peru.
The Gordon and Betty Moore Foundation has made it possible for our citizen science program for the conservation of the forests of the Tambopata National Reserve, not stop during the pandemic.
With the financing of the Discovering New Species project, we have been able to develop citizen science not only on-site with shelter coverage but also online through digital channels. We have also been able to implement communication materials that raise awareness of the biodiversity of the Tambopata National Reserve and the importance of its conservation before the imminent dangers it faces with illegal mining.
Schools, universities, institutions, and the general public have been able to actively participate in online and face-to-face experiences in Tambopata.
SPECIMEN DETAILS
One of the largest species of all Euchromiina, with wings and body, covered
with black piliform scales and some parts in bluish-green hues.
A. mooreorum is large, bears black antennae, the proximal part of the valva is narrower and the distal part is triangular with internal processes of irregular shape.
Species of diurnal habits. Known for now from the department of Puno. It is
likely to occur in the montane forests of Bolivia.
