The etymology eckstromi is a Latinized noun in the genitive singular. The first author and Rainforest Expeditions SAC, who supports the “Discovery new species” project in Tambopata, dedicated this new species - Metacrisia eckstromi - to Christine Eckstrom, who along with her husband were key actors in raising awareness and making the Tambopata region known in all corners of the world.
Christine Eckstrom is a writer, editor, and videographer. She is the author of Forgotten Edens and a contributing author of more than 15 books published by the National Geographic Society. Her writing for National Geographic Traveler earned a Lowell Thomas Award for Best Magazine Article on Foreign Travel.
For now, only known from montane forests on the eastern slopes of the Andes of Peru. As well as this species, which is probably endemic to Peru, the middle and upper parts of the eastern mountain range of the Andes, harbor a high richness of species that is yet to be known.
Metacrisia eckstromi Grados sp. nov. has the postmedial band is wider, almost reaching the term. M. eckstromi has the ventral process shorter than the dorsal process and the vesica is very short.
